Cannabis 101

What is CBD?

CBD (also known as Cannabidiol) is one of about 120 cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. CBD isn’t psychoactive and has been studied for its wide range of benefits for the body and mind.

With our CBD products in Abilene, you get all the health benefits from cannabis without the high. CBD is simply an active chemical compound, or cannabinoid, that’s found in the cannabis plant.

How is hemp different from marijuana? Unlike marijuana, hemp contains extremely low (less than 0.3%) Delta-9 THC. THC is the compound in marijuana that is psychoactive and makes you feel high.

CBD is not a pharmaceutical, meaning it won’t interfere with any other medications. In fact, some studies have shown that CBD can enhance the effectiveness of other medications, such as pain killers.

HOUSE OF HEALING offers CBD, CGB, and other organic hemp products in Abilene extracted from organically grown Colorado hemp and will contain zero to <0.3% THC.

What Is Cannabis?

Cannabis is an umbrella term that includes both hemp and marijuana plants. Cannabis sativa is actually the scientific name of the cannabis plant, and hemp and marijuana are just two different “varieties” of it, like cousins.

What Is Your Endocannabinoid System?

CBD products at our Abilene location work by activating your Endocannabinoid System (ECS).

The endocannabinoid system regulates a wide variety of physiological processes, such as memory, mood and appetite. While ingesting CBD elicits an interaction with our internal receptors, it does so in ways that are quite unique to everyone – which is to say – the effect CBD products from our Abilene location may have on you may differ from the effects they have on others.

These differences speak to the complexity of our own physiological processes and current state of wellness. With this in mind, we encourage people to experiment and listen to their own bodies when using CBD products from our Abilene location. Different products combined with different ingestion methods will contribute to the effect it has on you. Other naturally occurring compounds found in hemp, like terpenes, also factor into the equation. Thankfully, we provide detailed lab reports as well as suggested use guidelines with each of our CBD, CBD, and organic hemp products in Abilene, so you can monitor exactly how much CBD you’re intaking.

Remarkably, CBD is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of exploring the effects of other cannabinoids. We are eager to explore other cannabinoids to see what types of health benefits they may have. In addition to CBD products, Abilene’s local CBD location, HOUSE OF HEALING, offers CBG, CBN, DELTA 8 and Mushroom products.

The Cannabis plant contains over 100 types of cannabinoids. These are the chemical compounds created by the cannabis plant. They are used to treat a variety of conditions, with our store in Abilene offering CBD for pain, anxiety, inflammation, bone growth, even epilepsy and cancer.

They modulate communication between cells, and also help when a deficiency or problem with our Endocannabinoid System exists. These cannabinoids bind to receptor sites throughout our brain (CB1 Receptors) and body (CB2 Receptors). Different cannabinoids have different effects depending on which receptors they bind to. For example, THC binds to receptors in the brain whereas CBD (cannabidiol) has a strong affinity for CB2 receptors located throughout the body.
